Don't give up on Whitney!

I know, presently...she's a hot mess. But pieces of the old Whitney are still there. Although weak and probably on the Brittney Murphy cocktail, she did something to me here:

Whitney Houston- I learned from the best Nottingham 2010

Somehow, the lower range and huskiness totally works for this song...and for a moment, she owns the stage again.

And for the obvious messiness, let me qualify, I'm a former substance abuse counselor so that makes me an expert (bursts into gales of laughter). I also walked through the hell of drug addiction as did many of my friends. For what it's worth, Whitney is doing her best. Despite the above example of her fabulous divadom, performances have of course been spotty. Her die-hard fans have stood by her, insisting there's no difference in her voice. Whoa, nelly.

Since none of this is new information to anyone who has an internet connection, a television, or leaves their domicile once in a while for water cooler dish, My hope for her is that she'll clean up and do the best with what she has, finding a way to deal with her addiction and almost as bad...her terrible stage fright that has obviously plagued her since the start of her tour. Whitney doesn't believe in herself, and nobody else does either, except for the ones who do. I know how that sounded.

I'll leave you with the Whitney I miss, and one we'll never see again. I was in the audience that night. If you look closely, at 1:16 and 1:26, that's not makeup on the inside corner of her eye. I know, I was there in the good seats. She upstaged the First Lady...and brought the fucking house down.
